the worst and the best result for the election (and how to find peace this week) + FREE Prayer Cards

There is one thing I am certain about. The one thing that puts us all on the same side.  The one thing that has consistently been true since the first seedling sprouted from the earth and man’s first breath was released. The one single fact that can bridge political parties, race, gender, age, and ethnicity. The one thing that all of the candidates and voters share. It is the rock solid fact that we are all human–all children of a loving, sovereign, powerful God that is all encompassing around and through our lives. We are all full of His breath of life gifted to us for this very brief time on earth.

We know these things about the breath of life:  it is finite, brilliant, unpredictable, and priceless. Corrupt leaders can lead countries into massive messes. Memorable leaders are remembered with love by the masses. Over and over and over again throughout history, countries rise people up…bring them back down…and repeat. Through it all, we continue inhaling & exhaling rhythmically–breathing in the air that we share as a human race. WE. ARE. ALL. IN. IT. TOGETHER.

The WORST thing that can happen is that we increase division after this election. The worst thing that can happen is that we FORGET we are all part of the same race–the human race, children of God. The worst thing would be if we judged our friends for the way they voted–blamed them for future issues. The worst thing that can happen is letting division cause us to fail as a nation--for division weakens the masses.

The masses are made up of US. Us! We ARE the people. That means you have the power to change the masses by being more UNIFIED with your neighbor. When we divide–starting at neighbor to neighbor–we become weak and vulnerable.

A country divided FALLS, remember? United we stand and Divided we fall.

Become united through simple acts. UNITY is built through FORGIVENESS, LOVE, HONESTY, COMPASSION, and TOLERANCE. These are the best things that can happen.

There is never one candidate fills all our needs. Just look at history. But seeds are planted with each leader and they are sown and harvested in their perfect season. We forget how much history there is, how long it took us to get to where we are, how big this world is, and how even bigger God is. Just as God is good in all realms of grace, WE, AMERICA, are a country of second chances, fresh starts, and forgiveness.

We have forgiven other countries and made amends with them. Can we rise up past the imperfections and character flaws of the winner (whether you voted for him/her or not) and PRAY for them (and the elected leaders below them). Because THEY ARE BRAVE. They are public servants who at some point really wanted to do good for our great country. Can we stop complaining about them and their faults, because we know in our hearts that we, too, are not without imperfection and flaw? Can we be quick to forgive and also humble ourselves to ask for forgiveness as we pray for those in power?atlas-vote-pray

How to find peace this week? You could PRINT THIS SHEET and pray for the next 5 days (and beyond) as our country grows restless and anxious about the future. Pray these prayers as leaders step into new roles, move on from old positions, and start to make important decisions.

Pray that our leaders TURN TO GOD for forgiveness and guidance.
Read Isaiah 45:22 “Turn to me to be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.”
lovePray that our leaders LOVE their enemies.
Read Matthew 5:44 “But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…”

vote-honorPray that our leaders HONOR truth-telling.
Read Colossians 3:9-11 “Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here is NO Greek or Jew…slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.”

vote-blessPray that our leaders BLESS the poor and the suffering.
Read Proverbs 14:31 “He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”

vote-respectPray that our leaders RESPECT every life.
Psalm 139:13-16 “For you created my innermost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

If you are worried about the candidates, remember God created them.  If you are worried about America, remember it was created as a nation to give it’s founders a new start in a new land. If you are worried about how to vote, remember to just do your best and trust God to do the rest. He will weave it all perfectly and beautifully into his good, loving plan for our human race.

Try to be proud today to be an American and stand for our history of doing GOOD to the world.
